Our products are artfully crafted, one-of-a-kind pieces. Due to the hand-made nature and natural material variations, they may vary slightly in size, color and shape.

The sustainable main material: rattan

This rapidly renewable raw material is obtained from rattan palms , which grow as climbing plants in the tropical forests of Indonesia. Their branches and trunks are harvested by hand without damaging the surrounding trees and then dried. The inside of the branches and trunks is used in varying thicknesses for furniture, baskets or lamps, while the bark is cut into strips and used for delicate wickerwork such as the well-known "Viennese wickerwork". Since rattan palms need an intact ecosystem to grow, rattan processing is an incentive for the local population to maintain healthy, natural forests.

Other material: wood

Our production partners: Selected according to fair trade criteria

When selecting our local production partners, we value fair pay, safe working conditions and reasonable working hours. We only work with small family businesses that have a maximum of 20 to 30 employees. They are all experienced, adult craftsmen. Older people in particular, who can no longer work in agriculture, benefit from jobs in the craft sector, as they can use the skills they learned early on to earn money and pass on traditional production methods to the younger generation. They have often told us how happy they are to be able to create something meaningful with this work and earn a good living. Since all work steps are carried out by hand , the production process hardly causes any greenhouse gas emissions . We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with the companies.

The production process: From raw material to the finished vase

Our Kamari vases are carefully handcrafted by skilled artisans on the Indonesian island of Lombok. The process begins with a round piece of wood being hollowed out and shaped to form the bottom half of the vase, creating a bowl-like base. The top part is made by weaving thick rattan fibers, secured with fine strips of rattan bark.
