Rattan palms tend to grow in large numbers in dense forests, where they are considered invasive plants as they take up space from other plants and remove many nutrients from the soil. The stems, which grow back quickly without chemical additives, need to be trimmed regularly and can be used as material for furniture and baskets after the drying process. This makes rattan a highly sustainable and abundantly available material.
