Our products are artfully crafted, unique pieces. Due to the handmade production process and natural variations in the materials, they may vary slightly in size, color, and shape.

The sustainable main material: seagrass

The seagrass used by our production partners grows in dense meadows on the seabed in coastal areas of the Indian Ocean. The long, flexible leaves are carefully harvested by hand, cut into narrow strips, and then gently dried. This natural process gives the material its characteristic strength and durable structure, making it ideal for creating high-quality, handcrafted products. Thanks to its natural beauty and eco-friendliness, seagrass is the perfect choice for stylish, sustainable accessories that combine aesthetics with environmental responsibility.

The production process: From raw material to finished bag

For our Salara bags, skilled artisans in our partner workshops in West Java, Indonesia, carefully weave seagrass fibers around a specially crafted wooden frame that defines the bag's exact shape and size. The handles, also made from seagrass, are then securely sewn on. The entire process of creating each bag takes approximately three hours—a process that demands patience, precision, and true craftsmanship.

Our production partners: Selected according to fair trade criteria

When selecting our local production partners, we prioritize fair wages, safe working conditions, and reasonable working hours. We work exclusively with small, family-run businesses with a maximum of 20 to 30 employees. They are all experienced artisans of legal age. In particular, older people who can no longer work in agriculture benefit from jobs in handicrafts, allowing them to use the skills they learned in their youth to earn a living and pass on traditional production methods to the younger generation. They have often told us how happy they are to create something meaningful and earn a living through this work. Because all steps are carried out by hand, the production process generates virtually no greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with the businesses.
