These products are artfully crafted, unique pieces. Due to the handmade nature and natural variations in materials, they may vary slightly in size, color, and shape.
➤ The sustainable main material: rattan
This rapidly renewable raw material is obtained from rattan palms, which grow as climbing vines in the tropical forests of Indonesia. Their branches and trunks are harvested by hand without damaging the surrounding trees and then dried. The interior of the branches and trunks is used in various thicknesses for furniture, baskets, or lamps, while the bark is cut into strips and used for intricate basketry, such as the well-known "Wienerweber" (Vienna weaving). Since rattan palms require an intact ecosystem to grow, rattan processing encourages local communities to preserve healthy, natural forests.
➤ The production process: From raw material to the finished lampshade
About the brand:
Our Anjani lampshades are carefully crafted by skilled artisans on the Indonesian island of Bali. The process begins with hand-forming a sturdy metal frame to create a stable foundation. Thin, long rattan strands are then carefully woven into the frame with expert precision. To ensure durability, strips of rattan bark fiber are used to firmly secure the fibers. Each lampshade takes approximately three hours to complete, demonstrating the remarkable patience and craftsmanship of the artisans.
➤ Our production partners: Selected according to fair trade criteria
When selecting our local production partners, we emphasize fair pay, safe working conditions, and reasonable working hours. We work exclusively with small family businesses with a maximum of 20 to 30 employees. They are all experienced artisans of legal age. Older people who can no longer work in agriculture, in particular, benefit from jobs in artisanal crafts, allowing them to use the skills they learned at a young age to earn money and pass on traditional production methods to the younger generation. They have often told us how happy they are to create something meaningful and earn a living through this work.
